Trauma and PTSD

Past events frequently manifest as deep memory images which “bleed through” our awareness in a variety of obscure and not so obscure ways.  Most of the time they get explained away for lack of any logical context in present time.  But images aren’t the only clues our past experiences leave behind.  The past can just as well insert itself into present time through any of our senses: sound, smell, taste, touch, and visuals as well as producing images in dreams.

Why should we care or pay attention to them at all? Because these are the signs of something begging for attention to be healed.  Although there have been many documented cases of past life recall, this process is not overly concerned with proving the story true or not.  The important  element is the story that remains in the psyche and its ability to constantly influence the physical.  The physical component of untreated trauma can have far-reaching consequences.

Too often,  events become lodged in our nervous system.  We have the ability to override the body’s natural capacity to discharge the physical effects of traumatic experience, be it direct or vicarious.  The information is now stored in the body in the form of energy.  The body and the nervous system in partcular need to be addressed to allow it to release in a natural way.

Excuuuuuuuuuse me!

It usually takes a lot to get our attention and it may be much later in life that a current event triggers the release of the stored energy from the original event.   Not limiting our search for the core to this lifetime enables us to truly address phenomena that defy explanation through personal history - aches and pains for which there may as yet be no medical basis or chronic pain and illness, unexplainable phobias, recurring dreams, feelings of sadness and despair seemingly for no good reason,  familiarity with people, places and things you’ve never encountered before, things you “knew” as a child without being told, etc.

Unfortunately, our brain likes to fill in the gaps when information is missing and we often blame the external elements around us for our feelings of fear, panic, anger, shame, etc.  This is not to negate the presence of those emotions.  The clue is that these feelings don’t really go away when the current trigger is removed.  Or, in some cases, the feelings sbside only to resurface at the first sign of any similar occurrence.

Deep Memory Process TM tracks dissociation and promotes somatic awareness to release the frozen blocks. This allows the stored,  previously unconscious information  to finally be processed through the nervous system.  The present body finally gets the message that the event is over on many levels.  The session consists not only  of revelations of the past  but also of the present  as the client is able to approach the previously traumatically charged pieces with some distance and a more expanded perspective.

Using an integrated approach borrowing from guided imagery, Gestalt, psychodrama, Reichian bodywork, breathwork, sound and sensorimotor psychotherapy presents a mindful and holistic path for healing.  Many of my clients are those who have worked on their issues for concentrated periods of time.  Defining regression as “going deeper” - not  “back” - gives us a tool to resolve, not re-traumatize.  DMPTM works in the transpersonal realms as well, inviting spiritual transformation into the mix.
